PjBL KD EPPI “Prevent Diabetes Early: Recognize the Risks and Treat Wisely from Home”

FIKES UPNVJ - A Project Based Learning (PjBL) activity was held by Group 2 Class D Nursing Study Program Students at the Faculty of Health Sciences UPN "Veteran" Jakarta. The activity took place from 14.00-17.99 WIB on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 with the theme "Prevent Diabetes Early: Recognize the Risks and Treat Wisely from Home". This activity was attended by Nursing S1 students Class of 2023, Supervisors, KD EPPI Course Choir, Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni and Cooperation and Head of the Undergraduate Nursing Study Program. The purpose of this event is to increase public awareness and understanding of the prevention and management of Diabetes Mellitus early through an educational, participatory, and project-based approach, emphasizing the important role of families and healthy lifestyles as part of promotive and preventive efforts in reducing the incidence of Diabetes Mellitus in the community.

This activity began with an opening, followed by remarks from the Supervising Lecturer, the Chief Executive, and the Representative of the Religious Education Mother. Participants then filled out a pre-test before receiving material on Diabetes Mellitus, followed by a question and answer session. After that, ice breaking and post-test filling were carried out. The event was closed with a group photo, souvenir handover, and closing.

To assess the effectiveness of the counseling, a pre-test was conducted before the material was given and a post-test after the education session. Of the total 30 participants, the average pre-test score was recorded at 65.67, while the average post-test score increased to 95.67, indicating an increase in participant understanding of 30 points or around 45.7%. This increase reflects the success of the educational and interactive methods applied. These results prove that the right approach can effectively increase public awareness and knowledge in efforts to prevent Diabetes Mellitus early on.

By holding this activity, it is hoped that it will be the beginning of students of the Nursing Study Program, Undergraduate Program regarding the importance of health education to the general public and caring about the importance of health during the learning process at the National Development University "Veteran" Jakarta.
