FIKES UPNVJ - Jakarta, February 19, 2025 – The Diploma Three Physiotherapy Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) "Veteran" Jakarta continues to innovate in its learning methods in order to create graduates who are ready to compete in the industrial world, especially in the sports and wellness sector. One of the methods applied to achieve this goal is the Case Method or case study method in the Sports Physiotherapy and Wellness course. This method aims to bring students closer to real situations in the field, connecting the theories learned in college with the challenges faced in the world of work.
Presentation of Sports and Wellness activities
The Case Method focuses on solving real problems that are often encountered in physiotherapy practice in the fields of sports and wellness. Students are given case studies that cover various physical conditions experienced by athletes or individuals undergoing wellness programs, such as sports injuries, postural disorders, or rehabilitation needs after injury. With this method, students are expected to not only understand the theoretical concepts of physiotherapy, but also have the ability to apply this knowledge in a more practical context and in accordance with industry standards.
The advantage of implementing the Case Method in learning Sports Physiotherapy and Wellness is its ability to develop students' analytical and critical skills. Through group discussions and case study presentations, students are trained to think systematically, identify problems, and design appropriate physiotherapy interventions. This also prepares them to face the challenges of the ever-evolving world of work, where fast and precise solutions are needed, especially in a very dynamic industry such as sports and wellness.
Not only that, the application of this method also aims to create a strong link and match between education and industry. By collaborating directly with practitioners and professionals in the field of sports and wellness, students gain direct insight into the needs and standards that apply in the industry. This allows them to be better prepared to enter the world of work after graduation, with a better understanding of what is needed by companies or organizations in the sector. In this case, UPN Veteran Jakarta has partnered with various sports facilities and fitness centers that provide practical experience for students.
According to the lecturer in charge of the Sports Physiotherapy and Wellness course, the application of the Case Method also supports the development of students' soft skills, such as communication skills, teamwork, and leadership. Students not only learn about theory and techniques, but also how to work in a multidisciplinary team, communicate with clients, and make decisions professionally. These skills are essential in the workplace, especially in the health and sports industry which involves direct interaction with various parties, including athletes, coaches, and patients/clients.
Overall, the use of the Case Method in the Sports Physiotherapy and Wellness course in the Physiotherapy Study Program at UPN Veteran Jakarta is an important bridge to create graduates who not only master physiotherapy theoretically, but are also ready to face practical challenges in the field. Thus, this method helps answer the needs of the ever-growing sports and wellness industry, while strengthening the relevance of education to the demands of the job market. This is in line with the vision of the university and the Faculty to produce competent graduates who are ready to contribute directly to improving the quality of health services in Indonesia.
