FIKES UPNVJ – On December 8, 2024, students of the Nursing, Public Health, Physiotherapy, and Nutritional Sciences Study Programs from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta carried out a Field Project activity entitled "Fight Cholesterol with a Healthy Lifestyle to Enjoy a Comfortable Life in the Future." This event took place at Posyandu Merpati RT.02/RW.001, Jl. Rotan, Limo District, Depok City, West Java, and involved local residents as the main participants.
This activity is part of the implementation of the Health Team Collaboration and Cooperation course, which is guided by lecturer Heri Wibisono, S.Pd, M.Si, AIFO aims to provide education to the public about the importance of maintaining health, especially in controlling cholesterol to prevent the risk of cardiovascular disease. In addition, this activity is expected to encourage changes in healthy lifestyles among the community.
The event was opened with an introduction by the MC, reading of prayers, and singing the national anthem Indonesia Raya and the National Defense March. The welcoming speech was given by the Chief Executive, Ladyfa Fernanda Musaylama, the local RW, and the Merpati Posyandu Cadre. Next, participants took a pre-test to measure their initial knowledge regarding cholesterol and cardiovascular disease.
The main material was delivered by speakers from the student group, which included the definition of cholesterol, risk factors for cardiovascular disease, the importance of a healthy diet, and physical activity in controlling cholesterol levels. This presentation was followed by an interactive question and answer session, which gave residents the opportunity to get further explanation regarding the topics presented.
After the material session, the event continued with an ice-breaking activity to lighten the mood, followed by a post-test to evaluate the increase in participants' understanding after participating in the education. Participants who were active in the discussion and managed to answer well were given prizes as a form of appreciation.
The activity ended with a cholesterol and blood sugar level check for interested participants, the presentation of plaques to the Merpati Posyandu partners, and a documentation session in the form of a group photo of all participants and the committee. The committee also documented the event for publication on social media to increase wider public awareness.
With the implementation of this activity, it is expected that the community around Posyandu Merpati can increase awareness of the importance of maintaining cholesterol levels in the body through a healthy lifestyle, such as consuming nutritious food, regular exercise, and regular health checks. This program not only provides direct benefits to participants, but also becomes the first step in building a healthier society that cares about preventing cardiovascular disease.
