PBL GERONTIK D "OVERCOME: Warm Water Foot Soak Therapy with Epsom Salt for Hypertension in the Elderly"

FIKES UPNVJ - The project based learning is the final assignment for the Gerontic Nursing course which was originally planned for 13.00 WIB, Friday, October 25, 2024, experienced a schedule adjustment to 14.00 WIB due to the routine religious study activities of local residents which finished at 16.00 WIB. This activity was carried out at the AM Educenter Jl. A Rahim RT. 01 / RW. 03, Meruyung Village, Limo District, Depok City. With the title "TERATASI: Warm Water Foot Soak Therapy with Epsom Salt for Hypertension in the Elderly". The purpose of this activity is to increase the knowledge and awareness of the community of RT 01/RW 03, Meruyung Village, Limo District, regarding hypertension and how to prevent increased blood pressure in hypertension patients through warm water soak therapy with Epsom salt.

The enthusiasm of the community in participating in this activity is very high. The number of participants, which was initially targeted at 30 people, increased during the day. The number of participants attending reached 41 people. Positively, the increase in the number of participants was also caused by students taking advantage of the momentum by holding activities that coincided with the local residents' routine religious studies.

The activity was guided by 2 students as MC, Chatyla Putri Cika Ayu Setya and Dea Fediana. The core of this activity was the presentation of material on hypertension disease presented by Khonsa Sholihah and a demonstration of warm water foot soak therapy with epsom salt as one of the steps to prevent hypertension complications by Syafa Salsabila Meisya Rachmat.

After that, the activity continued with a question and answer session. There were 3 participants who asked questions. The activity ended with filling out a post-test, a group photo session, handing over certificates and giving prizes to the best questioners and to one of the elderly participants who had a history of hypertension who voluntarily tried a demonstration of warm water foot soak therapy with epsom salt. The symbolic handover of the certificate was given by Nadiyyah Mauliya as the head of the committee to Mrs. Mardinah as the head of the ta'lim assembly.

At the end of the activity, there were blood pressure checks and blood sugar checks for the participants. The checks were carried out by 5 students, namely Laura Anandita, Dinda Marsha Almira, Intan Prasetya Wulandari, and Nindya Pramesti Wulandari.

With this field project, it is hoped that students of UPN Veteran Jakarta and the community of RT 1/RW 3, Meruyung Village, Depok can build relationships and share the knowledge presented by the presenters, and it is hoped that this activity will be useful for the community regarding hypertension.
