FIKES UPNVJ - Tangerang, February 27, 2025 – As part of the implementation of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum, students of the Physiotherapy Study Program, Undergraduate Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ) carried out Project Based Learning (PjBL) in the Sports Physiotherapy Management and Wellness course at Persita Tangerang. This activity aims to provide students with direct experience in managing and designing physiotherapy programs that focus on recovery and prevention of injuries in the world of sports, especially at the professional level.

PjBL at Persita Tangerang involves students who are divided into several groups, each of which is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating physiotherapy programs that support athlete welfare and improve the performance of the Persita soccer team. By using a real-world problem-based approach in the field, students are given the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge they have learned in class to practical situations faced by professional sports teams.

The lecturer in charge of the course, Agustiyawan, explained that this activity is an effort to prepare students to face the challenges of an increasingly competitive world of work. "Through this Project Based Learning, students are not only taught about the theory of sports physiotherapy and wellness management, but are also trained to work together in a team, identify problems, and find applicable and efficient solutions in the real world. This will greatly assist them when entering the professional world, either as a sports physiotherapist or as a practitioner in the wellness field," said Agus
During this activity, students are responsible for assessing the physical condition of Persita athletes, designing physiotherapy programs for mild to moderate injuries, and providing post-match recovery exercises. In addition, they are also involved in designing an injury prevention program with a more holistic approach, which includes proactive fitness monitoring and injury prevention techniques. This project is fully supported by the Persita Tangerang medical team who provide practical guidance to students, so that they gain direct insight into the health management of professional athletes.
Ilham Jaya Kesuma, a former player of the Indonesian National Team, Persita Tangerang who now serves as the coach of the U-18 Persita Tangerang team, gave his views on this collaboration. "As a former player who is now a coach, I really appreciate the existence of a program like this. Proper sports physiotherapy is not only important for injury recovery, but also for maintaining the fitness and performance of athletes, especially young ones. Collaborating with FIKES UPNVJ Physiotherapy students gives us a new perspective, and helps ensure that the recovery process and injury prevention are carried out with a more professional approach," said Ilham.
In the future, the UPNVJ Faculty of Health Sciences plans to expand similar collaborations with other sports clubs, to create more opportunities for students to apply their knowledge and skills in the real world. This PjBL is expected to be a model for more innovative practical learning that is relevant to industry needs, so that UPNVJ Physiotherapy students are ready to compete at the national and international levels in the field of sports physiotherapy and wellness.
