FIKES UPNVJ - Students majoring in Environmental Health (Semester V) of the Public Health Study Program, Undergraduate Program (PSKMPS) UPN “Veteran” Jakarta have participated in technical guidance (bimtek) activities at the Environmental Health Laboratory Center (BBLKL) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Salatiga, on Monday, November 11, 2024. This bimtek activity was attended by all 43 students majoring in Environmental Health and accompanied by accompanying lecturers, including Dr. Fajaria Nurcandra, S.K.M., M.P.H., Ms. Nayla Kamilia Fithri, S.K.M., M.P.H., Ms. Adelia Suryani, S.K.M., M.K.M., and Mr. Arga Buntara, S.K.M., M.P.H. This visit to BBLKL Salatiga was the second visit after the same activity was carried out in the previous year. This technical guidance was conducted as an effort to facilitate participating students to fulfill the Learning Outcomes of the Disease Vector & Health Course and the Environmental Quality Analysis Practice Course.
The activity was opened at 9.15 WIB by singing the national anthem Indonesia Raya. Furthermore, remarks were given by Mr. Arga Buntara, S.K.M., M.P.H. as a representative of UPN “Veteran” Jakarta and Dr. Wiwik Trapsilowati, S.K.M., M.Kes. who is also the Head of the Disease Surveillance, Risk Factors, and Extraordinary Events (KLB) Work Team of BBLKL Salatiga. BBLKL Salatiga welcomed this activity as a form of collaboration and cooperation between the two institutions.
The technical guidance attended by participating students included:
Testing the effectiveness of repellent against mosquitoes using repellent test cages with gel, tissue paper, lotion, and stick formulations;
Testing oil-liquid mosquito repellent using the glass cylinder method carried out on cockroach samples; and
Insect susceptibility test using insecticide-impregnated papers based on WHO instructions.
At the end of the activity, student participants were given the opportunity to visit the World Vector and Disease Reservoir Scientific Tourism Site (DUVER). In this place, students can see the distribution of various vectors and disease reservoirs in Indonesia in preserved conditions. Various dioramas on disease vector control are also presented in this place.
It is hoped that real cooperation and collaboration between the Public Health Study Program, Undergraduate Program, UPN "Veteran" Jakarta and the Center for Environmental Health Laboratory, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Salatiga will continue in other Tri Dharma fields, namely research and community service, in the near future. In addition, it is hoped that all student participants will be able to understand the theory and expertise in various insecticide tests so as to fulfill the Learning Outcomes of the Course (CPMK) Disease Vectors & Health and Environmental Quality Analysis Practices.
