FIKES UPNVJ - On Wednesday, May 1 2024, an education activity regarding Disaster Preparedness in the context of disaster mitigation was carried out online by students of the UPN Veteran Jakarta D3 Physiotherapy Study Program. Providing this education is a series of disaster mitigation activities in the Matra Physiotherapy course. The aim of this disaster mitigation activity is to broaden insight and increase knowledge as well as prepare the community in disaster preparedness. Matra physiotherapy itself is a branch of physiotherapy which is concerned with the recovery and treatment of injuries or medical conditions related to the environment in which humans exist. The goal is to maintain or restore the patient's physical health, mobility, and comfort in an extreme mattress environment.

Mitigation Preparedness in Facing Disasters is an important thing to do so that people understand the threat of disasters that may occur in their area and the steps that can be taken to reduce risks and deal with disasters more effectively. Disaster preparedness and education also helps communities become more independent and resilient in facing challenges, increasing their ability to recover and adapt after a disaster occurs.

Apart from that, this activity also explains the importance of using neck collars for disaster victims. The use of a neck collar on disaster victims is important because it helps reduce the risk of further injury to the cervical spine. The neck is a part of the body that is vulnerable to serious injury, especially in accidents or disasters such as earthquakes or vehicle accidents. Neck collars provide additional support and stability to the victim's neck, reducing unwanted movements that can worsen spinal injuries.

The first event began with an opening by MC Dea Aurelia and continued with remarks from the group representative, Silmi Ridhiya. After the welcoming ceremony, photo session and group prayer, the core event of mitigation was held, namely the presentation of material regarding preparedness in facing disasters by the speaker, namely Muhammad Bilal, guided by the MC. Then continue by watching a video of making a Neck Collar from Sandals. Using an improvised neck collar made of sandal-like material can be a last resort when there are no medical neck collars available nearby. In emergency situations where proper medical equipment is not available, the use of an improvised neck collar from a sandal may provide some stabilization to the victim's neck. However, this should be done with caution and only if no other options are available.

After the presentation of the material, a discussion and question and answer session opened. Participants who attended actively asked and discussed other alternatives for making neck collars. After the discussion and question and answer session, participants filled in attendance and the activity was closed again by the MC.
