Exclusive Breastfeeding Health Education By Maternity Nursing Professional Practice Students Academic Year 2023/2024

FIKES UPNVJ – On Wednesday, December 6 2023, health education activities regarding exclusive breastfeeding were carried out at the KIA Polyclinic, Kedaung Health Center, Sawangan District, Depok City. This activity was attended by mothers and prospective mothers who were undergoing routine Antenatal Care (ANC) checks at the polyclinic. The activities held are part of the professional practice of maternity nursing for the 2023/2024 academic year. This health education is carried out as a form of health promotion effort to maintain and improve the level of public health.

The series of events started at 08.00 WIB, starting with an opening by students Nadiya Fitriani Tanjung and Galuh Nurulita Fitriani who were also presenters for this health education activity. The activity continued with completing a pre-test to find out to what extent mothers and prospective mothers know about exclusive breastfeeding. Next, material was delivered and discussions regarding what exclusive breastfeeding is, the benefits and advantages of exclusive breastfeeding, factors that influence breast milk production, and the phases or stages of breast milk production. Participants who took part in this activity were very enthusiastic in listening to the material presented.

Activities guided by Ns. Dora Samaria, M.Kep is expected to increase the knowledge of mothers and prospective mothers regarding exclusive breastfeeding as well as their attitudes in the future regarding giving exclusive breast milk to their babies. Apart from that, nursing professional practice students, namely Dinda Cantika Rahma, Nabilla Asmarany, Maulyda Azzahra, Indira Cahyani, and Anis Partiwi acted as facilitators to accompany and help mothers and prospective mothers in a series of events. The event closed after participants were given the opportunity to complete a post test which aimed to determine changes in knowledge regarding exclusive breastfeeding after health education activities were carried out.
