FIKES UPNVJ – Cilodong, on Friday, November 29, 2024, a Project Based Learning activity was carried out in the Massage Therapy and Matra Health course regarding Optimizing leg health with physiotherapy at the Kostrad 1st Division Clinic, Cilodong in an effort to support the fitness and health of the military. This activity is a strategic collaboration between students of the Physiotherapy Study Program, Undergraduate Program, FIKES UPN “Veteran” Jakarta and the TNI Military Health Corps.
This activity is designed to improve the understanding and skills of physiotherapy in supporting leg health which is one of the important problems in the mobility and physical readiness of the military, as well as to introduce physiotherapy as one of the health professions that plays an important role in maintaining recovery, and improving body movement function. The selection of participants was based on the high prevalence of leg health problems that are often experienced by military individuals. This activity was attended by 10 participants from the military and 7 physiotherapy students.
The event began with remarks from Mrs. Siska Kristianti as Dansikes as well as the opening of this event. After that, entering the core of the event, the physiotherapy students provided education and carried out live demonstrations with volunteer participants regarding common leg health problems, preventive measures, physiotherapy interventions for acute and chronic conditions, and physiotherapy modalities. After receiving education about leg health problems delivered by the students, it was continued with an interactive question and answer session with the participants. The demonstration was carried out by demonstrating stretching techniques to prevent leg health problems, as well as massage techniques as a form of intervention in dealing with these problems, and explaining student products in the form of insoles to prevent various leg problems.
The event was closed with the awarding of certificates to participants represented by Second Lieutenant CKM Dr. Yonanda Alvino and one of the physiotherapy students, as well as the provision of student products to volunteer participants. Not to forget the distribution of snacks to all participants who had launched this activity. Through this activity, it is hoped that the military will not only get direct benefits in the form of physiotherapy health services, but also a better understanding of the importance of physiotherapy in supporting their physical performance and mobility in the field. This synergy is also expected to be the initial step for various similar initiatives in the future, which will not only focus on leg health, but also various other aspects of physical health.
