Opening of PBL 2024: UPNVJ Public Health Students Focus on Improving Public Health in Sawangan

FIKES UPNVJ - Depok, August 26, 2024 — The Public Health Undergraduate Study Program is proud to open the 2024 Field Learning Experience (PBL) activity which aims to provide practical experience to students in identifying and handling public health problems. The opening ceremony of this activity was held at 10.00 am in the Sawangan District Hall, Depok City, attended by representatives of students, lecturers, and community leaders.

The opening of the PBL activity was carried out by the Coordinator of the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program, Dr. Chandrayani Simanjorang, S.K.M., M.Epid., and continued with a brief presentation on the PBL activity by the Coordinator of the Field Learning Experience Course, Dr. Lusyta Puri Ardhiyanti, S.S.T., M.Kes., where this presentation explained the objectives and flow of this year's PBL activity. This activity was also attended by the Head of Sawangan District, Anwar Nasihin, S.Ag., M.M., Head of Pengasinan Village, Asep Wisnu Nugraha, S.Sos., Head of Bedahan Village, Mahruddin, S.Pd.i, representatives from Pengasinan Health Center, Putri Risa Sonia, and representatives of community leaders consisting of the Head of Bedahan and Pengasinan RW, youth organizations, health center cadres and BABINSA. The event was then continued with the signing of the Implementation Agreement (IA) between the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program of the “Veteran” National Development University of Jakarta with the Pengasinan Health Center, Pengasinan Village, and Bedahan Village as the basis for implementing PBL 1 and 2 activities.

This PBL course is designed to equip students with practical skills, including the ability to identify health problems, set priorities, find risk factors, and carry out relevant interventions. The 2024 PBL course was attended by 122 7th semester students with a weight of 3 credits. PBL activities consist of two series, namely PBL 1 and PBL 2. In PBL 1, students will collect data, analyze health problems that occur, and design interventions. While in PBL 2, students will carry out direct interventions to improve the health of the community in a predetermined area.

The location of this year's PBL activity was held in Bedahan and Pengasinan Villages, Sawangan District, Depok City, West Java. Students were divided into 13 groups placed in each RW. In carrying out their duties, students will work together with the local community to ensure that the interventions carried out have a positive impact. The Public Health Undergraduate Study Program hopes that this activity can equip students with the practical skills needed to face public health challenges and provide real benefits to the residents of Bedahan and Pengasinan Villages, Sawangan District. With the commencement of PBL, the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program hopes to continue to encourage active participation of students in community service activities and strengthen cooperation with various stakeholders to improve the quality of public health in Depok City.
