Guest Lecture of Dr.rer.nat. Lanny Sapei, S.T., M.Sc "Encapsulation of Active Compounds through Emulsion System at UPN Veteran Jakarta"

FIKES UPNVJ - Jakarta, 29 September 2023 - The Nutrition Study Program at UPN Veteran Jakarta held an interesting guest lecture today by presenting an expert in the field, Dr.rer.nat. Lanny Sapei, S.T., M.Sc from the University of Surabaya. The event took place on the 8th Floor of Merce Building UPN Veteran Jakarta and was attended by all students of the Nutrition Study Program Undergraduate Program. The event was officially opened by the Head of Nutrition Department, Dr. Nur Intania Sofianita, S.Kom, MKM. In her speech, Mrs. Nur Intania Sofianita conveyed how important activities like this are in broadening the insights and knowledge of UPN Veteran Jakarta Nutrition students. She also appreciated the presence of Dr. Lanny Sapei as a guest speaker who is very competent in the topic to be discussed.

The moderator of the activity, Nutrition Study Program Lecturer Nanang Nasrulloh, STP, MSi, then started the event by giving a brief introduction to this guest lecture and introducing the main speaker, Dr. Lanny Sapei. The guest speaker, Dr. Lanny Sapei, presented a very relevant topic in the field of nutrition, namely "Encapsulation of Active Compounds through Emulsion Systems." In her in-depth presentation, Dr. Lanny Sapei started with an introduction to emulsions, explaining how emulsions are formed from two immiscible phases, the water phase and the oil phase, which are connected by an emulsifying agent.

He also explains the different types of emulsions that exist, including oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions and water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions, as well as double emulsions and inverse emulsions. This provided an in-depth insight into the different characteristics of different emulsions and their utilization in various industries. Dr. Lanny Sapei also discussed the applications of emulsions in various industries such as food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics. She emphasized the importance of emulsions in improving product stability, extending shelf life, and increasing the bioavailability of active compounds. However, the highlight of the presentation was the discussion on the application of emulsions in encapsulation of active compounds. Dr. Lanny Sapei explained how emulsions are used to protect active compounds from degradation and oxidation, and to control the gradual release of active compounds. This is important in the development of nutrasetical and pharmaceutical products.

The event provided opportunities for participants to ask questions and discuss with the speakers, creating a very interactive and informative atmosphere. Students of UPN Veteran Jakarta Nutrition Study Program were able to benefit greatly from the insights provided by Dr.rer.nat. Lanny Sapei. This guest lecture is one of UPN Veteran Jakarta's efforts to continuously improve the quality of education and broaden students' horizons in the field of nutrition. We thank Dr.rer.nat.
