FIKES UPNVJ - Jakarta, September 17, 2024, the Physiotherapy Department, Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) UPN "Veteran" Jakarta held a public lecture with the theme "Developing Physiotherapy Promotion & Prevention Program For Musculoskeletal Health In Older Adults". This activity presented the main speaker Dr. Azliyana Azizan, Health & Wellness Coordinator at Research Nexus UiTM (ReNeU), Office of Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Innovation, UiTM Shah Alam, Malaysia.
The public lecture which took place at the Tanah Airku Auditorium, 5th Floor, Fikes B Building, UPNVJ Limo, aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the concepts, principles, and practices of physiotherapy in the field of geriatrics, including the treatment of various health conditions that are common in the elderly. This event was officially opened by the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Cooperation, Agustiyawan, SST., FT., M.Fis, Ftr., AIFO and continued with presentation of material by Dr. Azliyana Azizan as the main speaker at the public lecture.
Musculoskeletal health in the elderly is becoming an increasingly important topic considering the increasing elderly population in Indonesia and the world. Problems such as joint pain, osteoporosis, and impaired mobility often interfere with the quality of life of the elderly. Through this public lecture, Dr. Azliyana Azizan discussed strategic steps in developing a physiotherapy program that focuses on promoting and preventing musculoskeletal health problems in the elderly.
This public lecture was attended by physiotherapy students as well as the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni and Cooperation, the Coordinator of the Undergraduate and Diploma Three Physiotherapy Study Program, the Secretary of the Undergraduate and Diploma Three Physiotherapy Study Program, the Head of the Physiotherapy Department Laboratory, and UPNVJ Physiotherapy lecturers. It is hoped that this public lecture can open new insights, strengthen abilities and make students aware of the importance of a preventive approach in geriatric physiotherapy, especially in reducing the risk of falls, maintaining mobility, and improving the quality of life of the elderly.
