PROJECT BASED LEARNING: Community Engagement Activity Regarding Diabetes Mellitus

FIKES UPNVJ - The project based learning is the final assignment for courses in Community Nursing, Critical Nursing, Emergency Nursing, and Adult Nursing on the Musculoskeletal, Integument, Sensory Perception, and Innervation Systems which is carried out on the same day on Friday, May 3 2024 at 14.00 – 16.00 WIB. This project carried the theme "PELITA: Pengabdian Masyarakat Edukasi Manajemen Hiperglikemia, Teknik Nonfarmakologis Ketoasidosis, dan Luka Diabetes Melitus" which aims to enable the community to recognize diabetes mellitus and its complications and emergencies as well as wound & nonpharmacological management of diabetes mellitus. In addition, education and demonstrations related to the material directly by implementing all the understanding that has been learned in those courses.

The enthusiasm of the community in participating in this activity is very high. The number of participants, which was initially targeted at 30 people, increased during the day. The number of participants attending reached 50 people. Positively, the increase in the number of participants was also caused by students taking advantage of the momentum by holding activities that coincided with local residents' halal bihalal.

The activity was guided by 2 students as MC, Agustina Dwi Pangesti and Rahman Aziz Haditama. The essence of this activity is the presentation of material regarding diabetes mellitus from 4 aspects of the courses. Students tasked with providing material included Dea Fediana, Muthia Najwa Syihab Alwi, Akbar Ridho Rifai, and Intan Prasetya Wulandari as well as a wound management demonstration presented by Nindya Pramesti Mardlatillah, Laura Anandita, and Chatyla Putri Cika Ayu Setya. In the middle before the change of material there is a games session.

After that, the activity continued with a question and answer session. There were 2 participants who asked questions. The activity ended with a group photo session and the presentation of prizes to the best questioners. The symbolic handover of the certificate was given by Mr. Ns. Rycco Darmareja, S.Kep., M.Kep. as the supervising lecturer representative to Mr. Ahmad Muzaki, M.Pd as the owner of the AM Educenter institution.

At the end of the activity, there was a blood sugar check for participants who wanted to check their blood sugar. The examination was carried out by 3 students, Syafa Salsabila Meisya Rachmat, Intan Prasetya Wulandari, and Indah Tri Wulandari.

With this field project, it is hoped that students of UPN Veteran Jakarta and the community of RT 1/RW 3, Meruyung Village, Depok can build relationships and share the knowledge presented by the presenters, and it is hoped that this activity will be useful for the community regarding diabetes mellitus.
